Yesterday in Syria, rebel forces overtook the capital, Damascus, leading to the collapse of the Assad regime.

Bashar al-Assad reportedly resigned and left the country, with Russian media stating that he sought asylum in Moscow. The rebel offensive, initiated by a coalition including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and supported by Turkish-backed factions, began on November 27, capturing key cities like Aleppo, Hama, and Homs before reaching Damascus. The Syrian government, which had been in power for over 50 years under the Assad family, effectively ended its rule.

President Joe Biden has expressed intentions to support Syria following the collapse. His plan includes providing humanitarian aid to help rebuild the country after years of civil war, supporting all Syrian groups in establishing an independent and sovereign government, and continuing the mission against ISIS.

Earlier this year, the U.S. government gave Syria $920 million in additional humanitarian assistance.

We want to ask you, the reader: do you support giving aid to Syria? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on the overthrowing of Assad.
