The NHTSA announced that over 240,000 Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia vehicles were recalled in the U.S. and Canada due to safety concerns.
Some EVs were recalled for damaged charging units that could cause a loss of drive power, increasing crash risks. According to reports, around 145,235 Hyundai and Genesis EVs and 62,872 Kia EVs were recalled due to manufacturing defects. Most affected Hyundai and Genesis vehicles were made for the U.S. market, with 34,529 designated for sale in Canada, per Hyundai’s senior PR manager.
The recall includes these models: 2022-2024 Kia EV6, 2023-2024 Genesis G80 EV, 2023-2025 Genesis GV60 and GV70 EV, 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6. Kia advised owners to visit a dealership immediately if warning lights or chimes activate.
“If the driver ignores the warnings associated with the discharging battery condition and continues to operate the vehicle in a reduced power mode, the vehicle may eventually experience a complete loss of motive power, which increases the risk of a crash,” Kia America added.
