BREAKING: Trump announces former NFL star as HUD Director nominee

Amid a series of nominations released Friday night, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has chosen former NFL star and motivational speaker Scott Turner, 52, to serve as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

“Scott is an NFL veteran who, during my first term, served as the First Executive Director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council (WHORC), helping to lead an unprecedented effort that transformed our country’s most distressed communities.

“Those efforts, working together with former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, were maximized by Scott’s guidance in overseeing 16 federal agencies which implemented more than 200 policy actions further economic development. Under Scott’s leadership, opportunity zones received over $50 billion dollars in private investment,” Trump wrote.

“Scott is the Founder & CEO of his family’s foundation, Community Engagement & Opportunity Council (CEOC), working to revitalize communities across American through Sports, Mentorshop, and Economic Opportunity. He is also on the Board of the American Cornerstone Institute, and an Associate Pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.”

Former HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson wrote: “I am so proud of @sturnerofficial. This is a phenomenal pick by @RealDonaldTrump! Scott is a natural born leader, a man of God, and truly a brilliant individual.

“Scott worked with me at HUD, playing a large part in the success of our Opportunity Zones program. I am confident he will take this agency to new heights and deliver great results for the American people.

“God bless you, Scott! Candy and I will be cheering you on!”

Turner had posted a note of congratulations to Trump when he won the presidential election.
