In a bold and unexpected move on Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has chosen Pete Hegseth to serve as Secretary of Defense in his upcoming administration, and Democrats are in an upheaval.

Hegseth, 44, is an Army National Guard veteran who served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and served as a platoon leader at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. Hegseth was also an infantry platoon leader while serving in Baghdad.  He is a recipient of two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

Hegseth is also a graduate of both Princeton University and Harvard University.  He has worked for Fox News since 2014.

Despite his military background, most mainstream news media, including CNN, blasted out the headline, “Trump picks Fox News host to serve as Defense Secretary.”

Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren blasted Hegseth’s nomination.

“A Fox & Friends weekend co-host is not qualified to be the Secretary of Defense,” Warren fumed.

“I lead the Senate military personnel panel. All three of my brothers served in uniform. I respect every one of our servicemembers. Donald Trump’s pick will make us less safe and must be rejected,” she declared.

Conservatives are torching Warren over her comment.

Robby Starbuck: “Pete Hegseth is literally a combat veteran with 2 bronze stars who led a squadron in Baghdad. He’s worked on veterans issues ever since and he’s also a Princeton + Harvard graduate. You do NOT respect our troops or you wouldn’t disrespect Pete by calling him just a Fox host.”

Shaun Maguire: “The man has two bronze stars.”

Kyle Bass:

Two Bronze Stars for Valor overseas. Pocahontas, his Military record is worth re-reading:

Following graduation from Princeton in 2003, Hegseth joined Bear Stearns as an equity capital markets analyst and was also commissioned as an infantry officer into the U.S. Army National Guard. In 2004 his unit was called to Guantánamo Bay, where he served as an infantry platoon leader with the Minnesota National Guard. His unit was under the operational control of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division.

He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Shortly after returning from Cuba, Hegseth volunteered to serve in Baghdad and Samarra, where he held the position of infantry platoon leader and, later in Samarra, as civil–military operations officer. During his time in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a second Army Commendation Medal.
He returned to active duty in 2012 as a captain.

He was deployed to Afghanistan with the Minnesota Army National Guard and acted as a senior counterinsurgency instructor at the Counterinsurgency Training Center in Kabul.

Hegseth has been awarded two Bronze Stars for his service overseas.Hegseth, a major, is assigned to the Army’s Individual Ready Reserve.

IT Guy: “You left out that Hegseth is twice a bronze star recipient, served 20 years in the military including Iraq and Afghanistan, is a veterans’ advocate, and is Ivy League educated.

“Characterizing him as simply a Fox News host is a despicable lie of omission. This bullshit is why your party was wiped out in the election. Are you all not capable of learning anything, or do you plan to just keep imploding?”

Several people are mocking Warren over her past claims that she was part Native American Indian, which was later debunked.

Liz Wheeler: “You wrote a recipe called Pow Wow Chicken. I’d sit this one out.”

Alex Lorusso: “You convinced yourself that you were a Native American.”

Others are mocking those who served in the Biden-Harris administration:
