Amid all the speculation about who will serve on President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet and in his administration, one key appointment has just been announced: Chief of Staff.  And for the first time in US history, it will be a woman.

Team Trump just announced in a press release Thursday afternoon that Trump has chosen the co-chair of his successful campaign, Susie Wiles, to serve as his Chief of Staff. The position is responsible for the Executive Office of the President.

Wiles, 67, has a political career that goes back decades, including working on Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign. She is also credited with helping to get businessman Rick Scott elected as Florida governor in 2010, and helping Ron DeSantis’ campaign for governor in 2018. Wiles also worked on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, in addition to serving as co-chair of his 2024 campaign.

A press release by the Trump campaign reads:

The 45th and 47th President of the United States of America Donald J. Trump announced today that Susan Summerall Wiles, the winning Campaign manager for President Trump’s highly successful 2024 Campaign for President, will be named President Trump’s White House Chief of Staff.

“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” President Trump said. “Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

Earlier on Thursday, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk wrote, “Susie Wiles ran Trump’s best campaign of the three, and it wasn’t particularly close. She’s disciplined, she’s smart, and she doesn’t seek the limelight. She would make an incredible Chief of Staff. The president, and America, would be well served with Susie in that key role.”
