One of former President Donald Trump’s most staunch supporters has passed away on Election Day.

From Fox Business: Bernie Marcus, the co-founder of Home Depot, has died at the age of 95.

Marcus, who grew up in New Jersey, was the youngest son of poor Russian immigrants and became a self-made billionaire with a net worth of over $11 billion, per Forbes, after founding the home improvement chain with Arthur Blank in 1978, with the support of investor Ken Langone.

Marcus, a longtime donor to the Republican National Committee, according to federal election records, was an early supporter of former President Donald Trump.

In one of his last interviews in November 2023, Marcus spoke with FOX Business senior correspondent Charlie Gasparino in a wide-ranging interview in which he blasted President Biden’s economic policies for exacerbating the rise in prices that consumers are facing.

“I never anticipated anything like what we’re going through,” Marcus said of Biden at the time. “I wake up every morning and I say, ‘What is this dunce going to do today?’”

The Home Depot company announced in a statement:

The Home Depot is deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved founder, Bernard Marcus. To us, he was simply “Bernie.”

Bernie was an inspiration in many ways. He was a master merchant and a genius with customer service. Together with Arthur Blank and Ken Langone, Bernie helped create a nation of doers who could tackle any project, large or small. He loved our customers. He also loved the associates who made the company what it is today.

More than anything, he deeply believed in the company’s core values, particularly that of giving back. He never lost sight of his humble roots, using his success not for fame or fortune but to generously help others. In business and in charity, Bernie was unparalleled in generosity and goodwill.

In a statement from Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, he said Marcus was “an icon of the business world who created jobs and opportunity for generations of The Home Depot employees.”

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk wrote, “Rest in Peace to my friend Bernie Marcus who passed away last night at 95. He was the living embodiment of the American Dream, starting Home Depot as a career change when he was nearly 50. I’m sad he won’t get to see how the story ends today, but I’m grateful for his love of this country and his support of TPUSA along the way. May God bless the Marcus family.”

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) wrote, “Bernie Marcus embodied the American Dream, founding Home Depot and dedicating his life to philanthropy. Ann and I are praying for his family, and our hearts go out to his wife, Billi, and everyone mourning his loss.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich wrote, “Bernie Marcus was an extraordinary American. He was a great entrepreneur and Home Depot would not exist without his entrepreneurial genius. His creation of the aquarium in Atlanta was a wonderful act of citizenship. He will be deeply missed.”
