During a West Palm Beach press conference, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis expressed opposition to a marijuana legalization ballot measure (known as Amendment 3), emphasizing concerns over public safety and economic impacts, and criticized it for primarily benefiting corporations rather than the general public.
Concerns highlighted by Florida officials include the risks of addiction and criminal behavior associated with legalizing marijuana. Florida Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun Harris and Florida Chamber of Commerce President Mark Wilson have voiced worries over heightened substance abuse issues and a potential downturn in tourism.
Also this week, DeSantis argued against Amendment 4, advocating for its rejection by voters. DeSantis, having previously signed a ban on marijuana, has consistently opposed this amendment. He made statements on the matter in Collier County.
