Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday for allegedly not taking her calls regarding federal storm relief as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida.

Harris’s comments came after reports from NBC and ABC News, citing unnamed aides, suggested DeSantis avoided the calls, perceiving them as politically motivated. This also comes after Florida’s west coast was partially battered by Hurricane Helene less than two weeks ago.

“People are in desperate need of support right now and playing political games at this moment in these crisis situations…is just utterly irresponsible, and it is selfish,” Harris charged on Monday. “It is about political gamesmanship, instead of doing the job that you took an oath to do, which is to put the people first.”

Governor Ron DeSantis addressed claims that he ignored a call from Vice President Kamala Harris, stating he had not received any such call. He clarified that he had recently spoken with President Joe Biden about hurricane relief efforts and confirmed he had received everything he requested from the federal government.

With regards to Harris, he said, “I didn’t know that she had called. I’m not sure who they called. They didn’t call me, and their characterization of it was something they did. It wasn’t anything that anybody in my office did, in terms of saying it was political.”

We want to ask you, the reader: do you support DeSantis’ decision to ignore Kamala’s phone call? (if he did indeed ignore it). Answer in our poll below and comment your take on Harris’ handling of these major hurricanes.
