Conservatives are raising red flags over an abortion rights amendment that will appear on the November ballot in Florida. The radical proposal does not define “viability,” potentially allowing for abortion right up to the moment of birth. It also leaves into question the matter of parental consent, among other issues.
To get the measure on the ballot, a total of 891,000 petition signatures were required. Abortion rights activists reportedly ended up collecting over 997,000 signatures. Concerns have been raised over allegations of forged signatures, and police have found evidence that some of the supposed voter signatures were from dead people, according to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody tried to get the state supreme court to block the legislation from the ballot, arguing that its wording is deceptive, and voters won’t realize just how radical the bill is However, the Florida Supreme Court ruled in April that the measure could be added to the November ballot.
The Associated Press wrote:
Florida law currently bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, before many women even know they are pregnant. If approved by 60% of voters, the ballot initiative known as Amendment 4 would ensure that abortions are legal until the fetus is viable, as determined by the patient’s health care provider.
The proposed amendment says “no law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider.” It provides for one exception, which is already in the state constitution — that parents must be notified before their minor children can get an abortion.
Those opposed to Amendment 4 are pointing out multiple major concerns. The amendment makes all abortions legal “until the fetus is viable, as determined by the patient’s health care provider.” It does not give a time limit, leaving the matter completely open for anyone’s interpretation.
Another concern is the vague wording about “health care provider,” without specifying that a licensed medical doctor must be involved.
Yet another concern is over the parental consent issue. Amendment 4 simply says parents must be “notified,” but does NOT say parents must give “consent” for a minor child to get an abortion.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned last week: “The ACLU wrote and bankrolled a sweeping abortion amendment in Michigan. Now, the same lawyers are suing to force taxpayers to fund abortions. Amendment 4 is a Trojan horse that mandates abortion until birth for virtually any reason—if it passes, taxpayers may be forced to fund it. Vote No on Amendment 4 to stop taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand.”

Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis also posted a warning about Amendment 4 last month.
“Amendment 4 is dangerous, deceptive, and extreme. It would allow abortions at any time and for almost any reason, including late-term abortions when a baby can feel pain. It would eliminate Florida’s parental consent law and eliminate the requirement that only licensed doctors can perform abortions. Soros-backed Amendment 4 is dangerous, deceptive, and extreme. It must be defeated. Vote NO on 4!” she wrote.

Gov. DeSantis posted a video message sounding the alarm about Amendment 4 on July 1. He wrote:
Amendment 4 is bad for Florida, and we must come together to defeat it in November.
-It eliminates parental consent for minors, making abortion the only procedure a minor can get without a parent’s consent.
-It removes doctors from the decision and allows any so-called “health care provider” to make the decision.
-It will allow abortion in Florida up until birth and will invalidate all pro-life protections in state law.

Conservative host Liz Wheeler posted a video of a baby in the womb, and wrote, “Amazing MRI of an unborn baby. Obviously this baby is human. 🤍 Amendment 4 in Florida would allow this baby to killed, by lethal injection to the heart & then crushing the baby’s skull.”

A recent poll claimed that 69 percent of Floridians are planning to vote in favor of Amendment 4.

Meanwhile, Florida Planned Parenthood is pushing hard to get Amendment 4 approved.
Caroline’s decision to have an abortion was made with her family and doctor. Today, Florida’s abortion ban would take that away from her. Voting Yes on Amendment 4 keeps politicians out of our personal health care decisions. #YesOn4 https://t.co/peqwIahmu6
