Proverbs 23:5
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings
and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
[From the New International Version]
This verse details the fleeting nature of wealth. It warns that riches are temporary and can disappear as quickly as they come, symbolized by the “sprouting wings” and flying away like an eagle.
The message encourages people not to fixate on material wealth, which is unstable and unreliable. Instead, it suggests focusing on lasting values and virtues.
The verse reminds us that pursuing riches alone can lead to disappointment because they are not a secure foundation for life.
