Former CNN host Don Lemon faced backlash on social media after ridiculing a video of former First Lady Melania Trump discussing the assassination attempt on her husband, which left Trump supporter Corey Comperatore shot and killed in the incident.
Lemon shared a video of himself reacting confused and frustrated to Melania’s remarks. In it, she called the July 13 attempt “horrible” and “distressing,” hinting that there was “more to the story, and we need to uncover the truth.”
She states in the video: “The attempt to end my husband’s life was a horrible, distressing experience. Now, the silence around it feels heavy. I can’t help but wonder, why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?”
Lemon shared the video reacting to former First Lady Melania Trump’s remarks, overlaying his reactions on her clip. Throughout her comments, Lemon shook his head, rolled his eyes, and appeared bewildered. When the video ended, it zoomed in on Lemon, exasperated with his head in his hand. The video included additional mockery on YouTube, with a caption reading, “Why does it look like AI?!?”

X users criticized Lemon, with one calling his reaction “sick” for mocking Melania’s comments, such as Libs of TikTok, who shared the TikTok version of Lemon’s video to X on Wednesday, commenting, “Don Lemon mocks Melania Trump describing her distress over the attempted ass*ss*nation of her husband. Sick.”
Conservative commentator Paul Szypula asked, “Hey @donlemon, so can you have empathy for a human without considering politics for once in your life?”
“We should all be distressed when someone tries to kill a former president and actually kills an innocent man in the crowd. Do better Don Lemon,” radio host Stacy Washington wrote in her post.
