The FDA announced a recall of two Reser’s macaroni and cheese products sold in five states due to potential spoilage during transport.
The affected products are Reser’s American Classics Macaroni & Cheese, with “use by” dates of Sept. 14 and 16, 2024, and Reser’s American Classics Macaroni & Cheese White Cheddar, with a “use by” date of Sept. 11, 2024. The recall is part of a more extensive recall involving Reser’s deli salads and refrigerated items over “temperature abuse” concerns.
According to a Fox Business report, other recalled products include potato salad varieties, scalloped potatoes, pasta salad, corn, egg salad, spinach dip, gravy, and desserts. The products were sold in California, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
A Reser’s Fine Foods representative told FOX Business that the issue was limited to one truckload delivered to a single distributor. The recall, initiated on 7/29/24, ensured that no affected products reached store shelves and that all items purchased in stores were safe to consume.
Safeway, Stop & Shop, and Walmart, which sell Reser’s macaroni and cheese, confirmed their stores were not affected by the recall. Target, which also sells the products in affected states, did not comment. The FDA attributed the potential spoilage to a malfunctioning refrigeration unit on a trailer. The Oregon-based company makes Reser’s products, which are refrigerated, not frozen.
