Omaha police arrested a suspect 30 minutes after a shooting critically injured a teenage boy at Omaha Northwest High School on Tuesday.
The shooting, reported at 12:23 p.m. by a school resource officer, occurred during lunch and is believed to have been an isolated incident between two students. The suspect was found three blocks from the school.
Parents tearfully embraced their children as they began leaving the school after 1 p.m. Police set up a reunification site at the football stadium, warning the process would take time. A 15-year-old boy was critically injured and taken to the hospital. One student recalled running back to school, panicking after hearing screams, fearing for his life.
