From Fox News: Residents of a small Alabama city were up in arms at the migrant influx during a recent city council hearing that lawmakers suddenly cut short amid the outcry.
Meanwhile, state leaders demanded answers from the feds as the migrants appear to be in the country legally under Temporary Protective Status provisions extended to Haitian nationals by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
In Sylacauga, just south of NASCAR’s Talladega Superspeedway, City Council President Tiffany Nix abruptly curtailed public comment as residents demanded accountability for the at least 50 migrants that appeared in the city.
“We’re done,” Nix responded to resident David Phillips, who had criticized council’s attitude as “entirely unacceptable” during the meeting last week.
The video begins with Phillips voicing his concerns about the illegal alien invasion into his community. He asks, “Do we know where the individuals we’re discussing are coming from? Their point of origins? Because you’re treating them like they’re lawful US citizens, which they are not.”
Nix interrupted and announced, “I’m going to cut it off, because we have no reason to launch an investigation or to treat people differently because of how they look!”
“Who said that?” Phillips asked.
“There’s no reason for us to discuss this any further,” Nix fired back.
Phillips would not be deterred, arguing that Haiti is “a failed state – their president (Jovenel Moise) was assassinated in 2021 – there is no way the State Department can vet these individuals.”
Someone else is heard saying that these are valid concerns.
“People come here all the time,” Nix snipped.
“Please let him talk,” someone says.
“I’m going to ask all of you to leave!” Nix ordered, cutting off all discussion about the illegal aliens and quickly adjourning the meeting.
“This is our city!” one woman declares.

Last Friday, Rep. Ben Robbins (R-Ala.) fired off a letter to DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, demanding answers as to why dozens of Haitians migrants were suddenly dumped in Alabama with no warning.
Below is a longer video of the meeting, as multiple residents speak out before they were suddenly silenced by the city council.
A Sylacauga City Council meeting was abruptly cut short after only 20 minutes Thursday following questions from several residents about recent Haitian immigration to the area.

Local resident Bryan Taunton wrote, “I live in Sylacauga, AL which is going viral for all the wrong reasons, due to a tactical error by the president of city council regarding Haitian immigrants who have recently appeared in our city. The federal is abusing small town America, which stresses our local social services, schools, and levels our citizens with man unanswered questions. No one state or federal seems to be able to provide clues as to how they got here.”
