Police have released the mugshot of 14-year-old Georgia school shooting suspect Colt Gray, showing him with long dyed hair and a blank expression.

Gray’s aunt claimed he had been “begging for help” before the incident, according to The New York Post. Earlier photos, including one from his 2022 yearbook, depict a smiling Gray in a Georgia Bulldogs T-shirt, taken when he was 12 or 13.

Colt Gray was arrested Wednesday shortly after allegedly opening fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., killing two students and two teachers, authorities said. Nine others were injured and taken to local hospitals. His aunt, Annie Brown, told the Washington Post that Gray had been “begging for help” and struggling with mental health issues before the shooting.

“The adults around him failed him,” Brown said, expressing frustration. Living in Florida, she declined to detail Gray’s mental health struggles but noted she had tried to get him help from afar due to his troubled home life that exacerbated his issues.

The Post also reports Brown enrolled Colt Gray at Haymon-Morris Middle School in January to complete eighth grade after a period of absenteeism. He started ninth grade at Apalachee High on Aug. 1, just over a month before the shooting.

The FBI revealed that Gray had been investigated in May 2023 for online school shooting threats, which included photos of guns. At the time, Gray and his father were interviewed by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
