San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall was shot while resisting a robbery attempt in Union Square on Saturday, according to police reports.

The 23-year-old rookie was confronted by a 17-year-old armed with a gun, who attempted to steal his Rolex watch on Geary Street near Grant Street around 3:37 p.m. San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin confirmed Pearsall fought back during the robbery attempt, but during the struggle, the gun discharged multiple times, injuring Pearsall in the chest.

The suspect, a teenager from Tracy, California, also sustained a gunshot wound. He was quickly apprehended by responding officers as he attempted to flee on foot, and a gun was recovered at the scene.

Both Pearsall and the teen suspect were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, according to Police Chief Bill Scott. Pearsall is in “serious but stable condition,” the 49ers organization stated, while the teen is also reported to be in stable condition.

Video obtained by KTVU shows Pearsall shirtless, holding his shirt over a torso wound as he walks to an ambulance. The footage shows an EMT removing the shirt, revealing a large bloodstain on his skin before he is loaded onto a stretcher.
