Don’t mess with the patriotic citizens in Oklahoma!

From OKC Fox25: EDMOND, OKLA. (KOKH) — There’s outrage in Edmond after students were told they aren’t allowed to display the American flag.

Now the community is getting involved.

At least 100 vehicles showed up at Edmond North High School Monday morning to protest Edmond Public Schools’ (EPS) flag policy.

According to an EPS spokesperson, the district doesn’t allow students to display or bring any flag to school, including the American flag.

The spokesman said the policy, which has been in place for years, is intended “to limit distraction and have a safe environment.”

But last Wednesday, Caleb Horst, a senior at the school, had an American flag flying from his truck, and was told he can’t do it.  Now many of his friends are rallying around him by flying the American flags on their trucks as well, in a massive show of support.

“I’ve got a brother in the military,” one student said, adding, “If he’s fighting for it, we should be able to fly it.”

The school reportedly told Horst he better not have the flag on his truck by Monday. So on Monday morning, an entire flag parade took place outside the school.

Monday morning, dozens of vehicles and motorcycles circled the Edmond North High School, showing their support for a student who was told he couldn’t fly an American flag from his pickup truck.

Now Oklahoma State School Superintendent Ryan Walters has gotten involved.

Walters announced on Monday, “Kids in Oklahoma should be allowed to display the American flag and not be punished for being patriotic. New guidelines will be issued concerning the flag and honoring our country.”
