It’s officially one year since the iconic mugshot.
Last year, former President Donald Trump’s mugshot was released following his booking at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia. This marked the first time in U.S. history that a former president had a mugshot taken.
Trump had faced 13 charges related to his alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. The charges included violating the Georgia RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act), Solicitation of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, Conspiracy to Commit Impersonation of a Public Officer, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery in the First Degree, Conspiracy to Commit False Statements and Writings, Conspiracy to Commit Filing False Documents, and Solicitation of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer.
Since that day, the Fani Willis case against Donald Trump has hit significant delays. An appeals court recently halted all pretrial proceedings while it reviews whether Willis should be disqualified due to a significant conflict of interest: her affair with Nathan Wade.
This pause means the case is highly unlikely to go to trial before the 2024 election.
Here is the tweet from Trump celebrating the iconic moment:
