Philippians 2:6-8

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

[From the New International Version]

This passage, Philippians 2:6-8, illustrates the profound humility of Jesus Christ. It begins by acknowledging that Jesus, though fully divine and equal with God, did not cling to his divine status or use it for his own advantage.

Instead, Jesus chose to humble himself by taking on the role of a servant. He became human, embracing the limitations and struggles of human life. His decision to live as a servant highlights his commitment to serving others rather than asserting his divine rights.

The verse goes further to describe how Jesus humbled himself even to the point of death. He did not just die any death, but accepted the most painful and shameful form of execution—death on a cross. This act of obedience underscores his complete dedication to God’s plan for humanity’s redemption.

In summary, this passage emphasizes Jesus’ incredible humility and sacrifice. He chose to lower himself for the sake of humanity, setting an example of selflessness and obedience to God’s will.
