From the New York PosT: Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance stunned reporters Wednesday by attempting to confront Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz on the tarmac when their planes arrived at similar times here.
“I figured I’d come by and one just get a good look at the plane because hopefully it’s going to be my plane in a few months, but I also thought you guys might get lonely because the vice president doesn’t answer questions from reporters and hasn’t for 17 days,” Vance told traveling campaign reporters.
Vance, who spoke to the press after approaching Air Force Two, asked: “Have they given you guys an explanation for why she won’t take questions from reporters?”
When the stunned reporters didn’t answer, he quipped, “No? Well, I hope that she changes her mind because it’d be good for the American people and I think it’d be good for you all if she actually ran a real campaign instead of one from her basement with a teleprompter.”
When Vance turned to walk away, one reporter suddenly found his voice and asked, “What would you like to hear from her?”
Vance replied, “I’d love her to just answer what she wants to do and also explain why every single position she has has changed. She pretends to be a tough on crime prosecutor and yet here she is wanting to defund the police. She’s the border czar, yet she’s opened up the American southern border.”
“This is a person who has to answer questions from the media and it’s disgraceful that she runs from you guys, and it’s also insulting to the American people,” he added.

Below is a longer video from C-Span. Vance is seen getting off his plane and immediately and confidently marching straight over to the reporters waiting for Harris.
At about the 5-minute mark in the video, Vance is seen walking back to his own plane with a big smile on his face, as Harris’s motorcade drives away.
He tells the reporters on his side, “I’d just wanted to check out my future plane…. and I thought the press gaggle following her might get a little lonely.”
He said he didn’t see Harris because the windows are tinted, and quipped, “I think she was trying to get the hell out of here as soon as possible.”
