1) Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has no events on public schedule as Harris is set to announce VP pick

From CNN: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has no public events on his schedule today, according to a copy of his schedule obtained from CNN affiliate WCCO.

Walz and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro are the two candidates left in Vice President Kamala Harris’ search for her running mate, according to previous reporting.

Harris is expected to announce her decision today and will later hold a rally with her new running mate in Philadelphia.

 

2) Priorities: Biden Admin to Eliminate Plastic Cutlery in Move to Save the Planet

From Breitbart: The Biden administration will reportedly phase out the use of plastic cutlery in all federal departments to combat “climate change.”

The administration announced the plan in July as part of its “Mobilizing Federal Action on Plastic Pollution: Progress, Principles, and Priorities,” per the New York Post.

The White House said that it will eliminate single-use plastics like “plastic and polystyrene food and beverage containers, bottles, straws, cups, cutlery and disposable plastic bags.” The order came after a previous executive order reducing the sale of single-use plastics on public lands.

 

3) Sen. Hawley reveals new whistleblower claims about Secret Service failures at Trump rally: ‘Scared to death’

From Fox News: Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Monday night to reveal new claims regarding the assassination attempt against former President Trump last month.

Hawley told host Jesse Watters that he had spoken with whistleblowers who provided him with information about the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) lead site agent at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally on July 13.

In the middle of the rally, gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump from a sloped roof, hitting him in the ear and killing one attendee. The 20-year-old had also injured two others before he was killed by Secret Service agents.

The incident has led both Republicans and Democrats to intensely scrutinize the Secret Service in recent weeks. On “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Hawley claimed that the lead site agent was known to be inexperienced and “incompetent.”

 

4) Gunfire Reports at Israel-Lebanon Border

From X/Twitter: On August 6, 2024, multiple reports emerged of sporadic gunfire and possible explosions near the Lebanon-Israel border. Live camera feeds from the area captured sounds of gunfire, with some users describing the situation as heavy gunfire. Despite the numerous reports, the details of the incident remain unconfirmed and unclear. No official statements from either Lebanon or Israel have been released regarding the situation at the time of reporting.

 

5) U.S. forces destroy multiple Houthi weapons, vehicles in past 24 hours

From Fox News: The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday that American forces recently destroyed three uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) belonging to Houthis.

CENTCOM said that the drones were launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen over the Gulf of Aden. The weapons were all destroyed between Sunday evening and Monday evening.

CENTCOM added that U.S. forces also destroyed three other weapons and vessels belonging to the Houthis within the past 24 hours.

“Separately, USCENTCOM forces successfully destroyed one Houthi uncrewed surface vessel (USV), one Houthi uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) and one Houthi anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) in the Red Sea,” the press release continued.

 

6) Multiple Travel Alerts Issued as World Recoils from Starmer’s Britain

From Breitbart: Multiple travel alerts have been issued around the world warning visitors to the UK to be wary of violent protests occurring almost daily in Sir Keir Starmer’s Britain.

Riots erupted in cities in England and Northern Ireland over the past week following a stabbing attack at a Southport dance class which left three girls dead and more injured, as Breitbart News reported.

Leftist Labour Prime Minister Starmer has since announced a “standing army” of specialist police would be set up to deal with the rioting and the hundreds of arrests so far, however many countries are taking no chances with the rising civic disorder.

 

7) NY County Bans Masking in Public Spaces (video)

County Executive Bruce Blakeman stated that people should not cover their faces in a way that hides their identity unless for medical or religious reasons. The New York Civil Liberties Union condemned the ban, calling it a “dangerous misuse of the law” that risks “doxxing, surveillance, and retaliation against protesters” and emphasized masks’ importance in protecting health, especially amid rising COVID-19 cases.

 

8) Harrison Butker Beats Cancel Culture, Becomes Highest-Paid Kicker in NFL History with Extension

From Outkick: Harrison Butker beat cancel culture. Last May, the Kansas City Chiefs kicker was the subject of an aggressive pile-on for comments he made during a commencement address at Benedictine College, in which he encouraged Catholic women in attendance to one day embrace motherhood.

The issue? Bad faith actors deceptively depicted his comments as a means to diminish women without children.

The sports media called for his job. Mike Florio reported that Butker’s job was on the line this season. The Kansas City Star, the most influential local media outlet in Kansas City, ordered the Chiefs to cut Butker and replace him with a woman on the field.

On Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Butker to a four-year, $25.6 million extension that includes $17.75 million guaranteed. The deal makes Butker the highest-paid kicker in NFL history.

 

9) Hurricane Debby spawns damaging tornadoes in South Carolina ahead of expected ‘catastrophic’ flooding across Southeast

From Fox Weather: Tropical Storm Debby is threatening coastal Georgia and the Carolinas as it slows down and potentially stalls over the Southeast. The storm could dump more than 2 feet of rain and cause catastrophic flooding.

After making landfall along Florida’s Big Bend on Monday morning as a Category 1 hurricane, Debby is forecast to move slowly northeastward. Debby already dumped more than 20 inches of rain, sent feet of storm surge flooding into Southwest Florida and knocked out power to more than 300,000 customers in Florida at the height of the storm. However, Debby is far from done.

 

10) AI fast-tracks dementia diagnoses by tapping into ‘hidden information’ in brain waves

From Fox News: As dementia becomes more widespread, Mayo Clinic researchers believe that artificial intelligence is the key to enabling earlier and faster diagnoses.

By pairing AI and EEG (electroencephalogram) tests, the team at the Mayo Clinic Neurology AI Program (NAIP) in Rochester, Minnesota, was able to identify specific types of dementia sooner than they would have through human analysis.

Based on these findings, EEGs could eventually provide a more accessible, less expensive and less invasive way to assess brain health earlier, according to a hospital press release.
