A disturbing report by CNN on Tuesday revealed that, in recent weeks, US officials obtained intelligence information about a plot by Iran to try to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
CNN quoted a U.S. national security official as saying, “Secret Service learned of the increased threat from this threat stream. NSC directly contacted USSS at a senior level to be absolutely sure they continued to track the latest reporting. USSS shared this information with the detail lead, and the Trump campaign was made aware of an evolving threat. In response to the increased threat, Secret Service surged resources and assets for the protection of former President Trump. All of this was in advance of Saturday.”
Now it appears that the Trump campaign was not made aware of the gravity of the threat.
Citing a source familiar with the situation, NBC News just reported Tuesday evening, “The Secret Service informed the Trump campaign in passing of a general uptick in threats against Trump, but the campaign was not made aware of any specific threats from an Iranian individual or group.”
This comes just after Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt on Saturday while speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in the ear, and three other rally attendees were also struck by the gunfire. One man was killed, and two others were critically injured.
