Trump has selected 39-year-old Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate for the GOP’s 2024 national ticket.
Trump made this highly anticipated and crucial announcement on Monday as the Republican National Convention began in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a pivotal swing state. By choosing Vance as his potential future vice president, Trump has paired himself with a top Senate supporter who has evolved from a former critic into a prominent advocate of Trump’s America First agenda.
Trump wrote in his Truth Social post that Vance, on the campaign trail, “will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond….”
While Vance hails from Ohio, a former battleground state that Trump comfortably won in the 2016 and 2020 elections, his selection is expected to strengthen Trump’s appeal among working-class Democrats. This is particularly significant across the Rust Belt, where these voters might otherwise have supported President Biden.
