Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

[From the New International Version]

This verse, found in Romans 12:18, encourages us to strive for peace in our relationships with others. The Apostle Paul reminds us that whenever it is within our power, we should strive to live harmoniously with those around us. This means actively seeking to avoid conflicts and fostering understanding and kindness.

The phrase “if it is possible, as far as it depends on you” acknowledges that while we can’t control the actions or attitudes of others, we are responsible for our own behavior. It encourages us to take ownership of our part in maintaining peace. This might involve being patient, forgiving, and empathetic, even in difficult situations.

Living at peace with everyone is a key aspect of demonstrating love and respect in our interactions. It doesn’t mean compromising our values or beliefs but finding ways to coexist peacefully and resolve disputes amicably. By striving to live in harmony, we reflect a Christ-like attitude, promoting unity and goodwill in our communities.
