White House border czar Tom Homan is considering legal action against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), alleging that her efforts to convince illegal aliens they have constitutional rights may obstruct federal immigration enforcement.
This follows her February “Know Your Rights” webinar, where she advised illegals to request judicial warrants from ICE agents. Homan contends that such guidance could impede ICE operations and has suggested referring the matter to the Department of Justice.
Ocasio-Cortez has responded defiantly, asserting that informing individuals of their alleged legal rights is protected under the First Amendment. At a recent town hall in Queens, she challenged Homan’s threats, stating, “Come for me, do I look like I care?” She emphasized that her actions are lawful and aimed at ensuring due process for all individuals, regardless of immigration status.
The dispute between Homan and Ocasio-Cortez has been lengthy over their different visions of immigration policy and enforcement tactics. Homan has been vocal in his criticism of sanctuary cities and has previously suggested prosecuting officials who, in his view, hinder federal immigration efforts. Conversely, Ocasio-Cortez has advocated for “immigrant rights” and criticized aggressive enforcement measures.
While Homan argues for stringent measures to uphold immigration laws, Ocasio-Cortez and her supporters emphasize the importance of protecting constitutional rights and preventing potential abuses of power.
