Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), 84, has filed for reelection in 2026 despite reports of her struggling after Trump’s election victory and Republican control of Congress.

Representing San Francisco, Pelosi has served in the House since 1987 and recently secured her 20th term. Pelosi, who served as Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011 and 2019 to 2023, plans to remain in top-level government, officially filing for reelection in 2026, according to the FEC.

Pelosi avoided answering whether this term would be her final in a New York Times interview after the election. Instead, she refocused on the “fight” that needed to be fought.

“I’m not here to talk about that,” Pelosi told the outlet. “I’m here to fight the fight so that we win in the next election. I must have thought I had the last term over and over again, but as fate would have it, the mission called.”

On the recent election, Pelosi suggested that Democrats might have performed better if President Joe Biden had exited the race earlier, telling the New York Times, “Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race.”

Pelosi is credited with influencing Biden’s decision not to seek reelection, though she denies playing a significant role.

When Trump takes office, it will be the first time Pelosi will not be in leadership under a Republican administration since George W. Bush’s first term.
