The Hill on Friday suggested Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as a possible contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, listing her among seven potential candidates, according to a Breitbart News report.
Some Democrats believe Ocasio-Cortez’s progressive record could hurt her chances if she decides to run, with one strategist telling The Hill: “She and the ‘squad’ started pushing too hard, too fast. D.C. doesn’t work that way. And our party doesn’t work that way. We need to get back to the basics.”
Ocasio-Cortez represents the party’s progressive wing, but strategists note that Vice President Kamala Harris, the most progressive nominee in history, lost to President-elect Trump in a landslide.
Some Democrats blame the loss on radical progressive policies, ideas and even terminologies. Strategist Julie Roginsky told CNN that the party struggles to connect with “normal people,” citing terms like “Latinx” as an example of alienating language.
Democrats are reportedly eyeing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, claiming she can connect with young voters. They believe her social media familiarity and outspoken nature could help her rally support, especially among Gen Z.

Following Harris’s loss, Ocasio-Cortez suggested that “misogyny” among voters may have been a factor in the defeat.
“This race may not have been decided by any one individual factor, but misogyny is very, very real in this country,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a November 6 live stream obtained by the Daily Caller. “As another widely known woman of color in office, you know, I knew that sexism and racism were real, but it was not until I got subjected to a national stage that I actually was shocked at how bad it is.”
